Hypothyroidism: 4 Natural Solutions to Regulate Your Thyroid

A drop in thyroid hormone production, common in women after 40, can lead to fatigue, weight gain, chilliness, and hair loss. Here are some concrete answers if your thyroid becomes sluggish.

The thyroid is a small gland located at the base of the neck. When it goes wrong, which is frequent in women, it is the entire organism that suffers the consequences, resulting in a drop in energy. Certain natural treatments help to fight against this dysfunction.

Oats

Why does it help? Oats are a cereal that naturally supports the work of the thyroid gland thanks to its richness in amino acids and minerals. It also provides a little iodine.

It is particularly effective if you feel tired, especially in the morning and have trouble starting the day.

How to use it? By consuming at breakfast a bowl of oatmeal (to which you can add dried fruits) drizzled with 6 to 10 oz of oat milk.

If this is not enough to regain energy, try oats in the form of standardized fresh plant extract (EPS Phytostandard), which is more concentrated: take 1 to 2 teaspoons per day in a glass of water in the morning , for one to three months. Please note: oats are not suitable for people who are intolerant or allergic to gluten!

Algae

Some hypothyroidism can be caused by a deficiency of iodine, which the body needs to make thyroid hormones. Algae are an excellent source, especially as they contain organic iodine, which can be easily assimilated.

How to use it? By eating seaweed tartars (laminaria, nori, etc.) or by sprinkling 1 tsp. of the same dehydrated seaweed in raw vegetables and soups. We also find seaweed such as wrack or laminaria japonica in the form of food supplements.

Take if iodine deficiency is confirmed by a blood or urine test, as too much can lead to goiter. The right dose: 200 mg/day, as a course of at least three weeks. Some supplements combine these algae with L-Tyrosine and minerals (zinc, magnesium, etc.), cofactors in the production of thyroid hormones (Actyr, Longévie; Régulinat, Lescuyer).

Blackcurrant

This tonic plant helps our body to better fight against the upheavals linked to stress and in particular to restore hormonal balance. It is therefore indicated when the thyroid gets tired due to excess stress.

The advantage is that blackcurrant is beneficial in cases of severe fatigue, even if hypothyroidism is not confirmed, without risking to unbalance the body.

On average, you should drink 15 drops per day, diluted in a glass of water, preferably on an empty stomach in the morning. The dosage can be increased up to 20 drops. The effects are not immediate, it usually takes a few weeks to see improvement.

Black Spruce Essential Oil

This essential oil from the coniferous family contains monoterpenes which stimulate the adrenal glands. However, the proper functioning of the thyroid depends on the functioning of the adrenals.

It is indeed the essential oil most often used in hypothyroidism. It is useful especially if you are feeling exhausted and constantly under pressure.

During periods of fatigue, massage the lower back and/or the soles of the feet, a reflexology zone linked to the adrenals, with 1 to 2 drops of black spruce EO diluted in vegetable oil or body milk. Ideal for a good start to the day, in the morning before getting dressed. For more efficiency, finish the massage by rubbing firmly or by tapping closed fists on these areas, without hurting yourself.

Conclusion

Better not to start a treatment to stimulate the thyroid without having done a blood test and confirmed the diagnosis. The symptoms can indeed hide something else, such as diabetes or viral hepatitis. If thyroid production is too low or natural treatments are not sufficient, hormone therapy (Levothyrox) should be used.
